Over the past few days I have encountered some problems while using microsoft word. I thought I was able to fix the oridginal problem but now it looks like it has come back again.

I actually encountered this problem several months ago and was able to correct the problem by totally uninstalling and reinstalling microsoft word. I thought my solution was going to be a permanent one however it has seem to reoccur.

the first problem I have recently encountered was microsoft word suddently and unexplainably shutting down after about ten minutes of use. With this problem I received the followring error message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error
C:Programs FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice10WINWARD.EXE
abnormal program termination

I was able to fix this problem or so I thought by going to the detect and repair option that is listed in the help menu. The first time I tried it, I only had one of the check boxes marked, but when I ran it again, I had both check boxes marked. This seemed to fix my problem and all was well again....

Well, shortly after thinking I was able to fix my problem, I ran into a bit of a different but somewhat simular problem. My computer was having some issues the other day and I ended up having to restart my computer before being able to save a document I was working on in microsoft word. I am aware there is a feature in microsoft word that lets you recover unsaved documents. The only problem is when I go to click on the unsave document in the task pane on the right, I receive the following error message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error
Programs C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice10WINWORD.EXE
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I have never seen this error message before and I have absolutely no idea what the heck it means. What the heck is going on here? Anyone have any ideas? Can anyone out there help me fix my problem with microsoft word that just doesn't seem to want to go away? Please... anyone?

all I can suggest you do, is google the error to see if there is anything you can find from others who have encountered the same problems.

I have worked with Crazy_Cat for the past few days to try to resolve this issue, and have run out of ideas.

I encouraged her to post here by telling her that you folks were a bunch of geeks just dieing to get your grubby mits on her computer (virtually, of course). <grin>.

Seriously, if her problems sounds at all familiar to any of you, please respond here.

Thanks,
Bob

BlackBird apparently you and I posted around the same time so I didn't respond to your excellent suggestion.

Googling an error is the best way I've found to find problems if you have error messages to google.

This was the first thing I did with Crazy_Cat's problem and got a lot of excellent possibilities, but no gold star.

Thanks for the suggestion BlackBird.

Hmm... well I was kinda looking for some more constructive ideas besides searching google. If I had found a solution there then I would have no need for posting my problem here. If anyone out there has any real ideas besides just searching google then please let me know. Thanks

Is there a way to reinstall the run time library? It seems as though this is what's causing the problem, since all of your errors are associated with it. My original suggestion would have been to reinstall office again, but since you've already done that twice, the run time library might be the problem. I'm just taking shots in the dark here though, but it seems like u r at the point where u will even take those.

do you have microsoft update? they release patches on that which fix many problems. also, why not contact microsoft itself for help? check their site as well

Good ideas, all.

Rat, I did check the microsoft site (really thought I had found a solution), but their solution presumes that she has adobe acrobat reader on her computer, and she doesn't. Damn, I really thought we had it, but no.

Microsoft's site had no other suggestions to make.
Thanks all.

Suspect you've already done this, but if not, try Windows update, and select a custom update, then if there's any updates of priority for you they'll come up, with options down the side for any other software you have, including office. There'll be a link to that and a number in brackets next ot it if there are any updates available and you can select that to review what's available and install it.

Well, I have had the same problem. I downloaded Adobe, which is free, and I was able to get the same file from microsoft. Well, it didn't help much. I re-installed the runtime library, bt still didn't help.
If I were you, I would check that office is updated, because there have been a lot of bugs and things that microsoft has fixed with office word, and office excel. I have heard of this problem, and I have had it. If possible, I would suggest using either open-office, which is free, and/or microsoft works, which costs something. They all have the same features as word.
Sorry I can't help more

Hmm… thanks for the real ideas to fix my problem with Microsoft word, but just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to solve it. After all those lovely brilliant ideas of searching google, I went over all the possible solutions I had already tried to see if maybe I had over looked something. Sure enough I missed a Microsoft add in that was the cause of my problem. I removed it from my system and all is well in the world of my computer again. Thanks to all for all your ideas and help.

I had some MS Word problems and it was only in Word and no where else in the Office program.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Office and still got the problems. Mine was Word would automatically restart its program after hitting a few keys.

So I got fed up with the program. Its only isolated in Word and not in Publisher, Outlook, Powerpoint or Excell. So I did a system restore. So far the program hasn't restarted itself.

Google is great but if you are lacking in time and in deadline mode, google wont be of assistance or help.

Finally: Do go into Office's website where you can download patches and updates for Microsoft Office.

Try Microsoft Office's Update Section

I hope this helps.
